To avoid the flu and its often deadly complications, many of our practices offer flu clinics for children and adults who are high risk patients.
Many people wonder what steps to take to avoid the flu. Here are 11 Tips for Staying Healthy during Flu Season:
Hand hygiene has proven to be the most important way to prevent the spread of infection.
- Wash your hands with soap and water or sanitize them with an alcohol-based product, such as Purell, frequently.
- Carry Purell or another alcohol-based hand sanitizer in your pocket and use it often.
Cough etiquette is another way to prevent the spread of infection.
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing. Use tissues to contain your cough or sneeze and dispose of them in the nearest trash can.
- Perform hand hygiene after covering a sneeze or cough.
Other tips to prevent the spread of infection include:
- Stay away from crowded areas such as waiting rooms, office buildings or theaters.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home from work, school or running errands if you are sick.
- Wipe your telephone and any other equipment you may share with an alcohol swab.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth to prevent the spread of germs.
- Practice healthy habits such as getting plenty of sleep, physical activity and managing stress.
- Drink plenty of water and eat a balanced diet.
